waiting for winter

Since about mid October I've been excited to try a session in the snow, but unfortunately Vermont hasn't had much snow so far. This week we enjoyed a little dusting, so we decided to go for it.

It was so fun!

This family has the cutest little boys (I'm pretty sure my daughter has a little crush on their oldest son).

Also, in case you're wondering, I may or may not be slightly envious of her gorgeous hair.

These guys came up with the idea for this shot. So cute!

It's always a pleasure to hangout with, and photograph a fun, happy family.

off the beaten path

Today we photographed some good friends. In fact, this was the first family we met in Vermont. They are fun, and adventurous, we've had good times with them.

I spent a while yesterday looking for the ideal spot. I found the perfect field. Don't let the dry weeds fool you...getting out there required tromping through some serious sogginess. We did the entire shoot standing in about 4 inches of water ( I am happy to report that my new boots are indeed water proof). And you can't tell from their relaxed demeanor and natural smiles, but it was freezing.

Thanks for a fun afternoon, and for welcoming us to Vermont. I hope you love your photos.

Fall is all about family photos when you're a portrait photographer, and I've had the pleasure of photographing some cute, cute families this season. Including this one. Vermont has some amazing people to go with it's amazing surroundings.

There are some people that just make you want to be a better person...this family is like that. They are beautiful people inside and out, and they were a pleasure to photograph. I love this little forest by the river. It's so pretty. I could go on and on about how beautiful Vermont is, but I'm starting to feel like a broken record...so I'll just move along to posting the pictures.

Yep. It's been a while. Since my last post we picked up and moved across the country to Vermont. So far it's pretty much fantastic. It is beautiful here. We arrived in early spring, and it's been awesome to see the seasons change. Spring and summer were both breathtaking, but we were really looking forward to Autumn, and it hasn't disappointed. I feel so lucky, not only to be in such a picturesque place, but also to have met some fun friends. This family is amazing, talented, and quite photogenic.

This session took place downtown, right in the middle of "Tucson Meet Yourself." It made parking a little tricky, but we had all the entertainment and people watching we could want. This family was so fun/easy to photograph. Their little guy has an infectious smile, and a very effective way of scooting around on his little toosh. So cute. It was a beautiful evening...perfect temperature, absolutely splendid lighting. There's not much more that we could have asked for.

This is my second time photographing this little man, and I loved it. He is so adorable, and has some of the cutest expressions. 2 year olds can be challenging to photograph especially, outdoors (they just don't like to sit still), but but he did fantastic.

Joel and Kristina

I first met Joel and Kristina last Christmas eve on the U of A campus when I was invited to photograph Joel's proposal (as Wilbur the Wildcat) to Kristina. A little background info...Kristina used to be Wilma the Wildcat. So while they were in town visiting Kristina's family they all took a trip to campus. Joel had put together a fantastic plan to break away from the group and meet some U of A cheerleaders who supplied the mascot uniform. He returned with the cheerleaders as Wilbur...waving at everyone and being very mascot-ish. Then surprised Kristina when he got down on one knee to propose. My job was to hang out in the background, try not to be noticed too much, while capturing the event. It was surprisingly hard to blend in. There weren't very many people on campus, I had both my cameras, and I was trying position myself to capture everything.

Fast forward several months...
Joel and Kristina were married last month at Saguaro Buttes Community Church. It was an absolutely beautiful ceremony and reception, and it was so great to work with them again.

Joel and Kristina met in a choir...I love the little musical elements designed into their invites, and programs.

I love the monsoons, but they can make it hard to do a photo session. The dark clouds threatened rain all around us, but we managed to escape the rain. It was a great session, with a great family. I can't wait to edit the rest.

She is a high school computer teacher. He is a PhD student at the U of A. We had a lot of fun on campus. The weather was great. And it was a blast to shoot inside the Optical Sciences building. I am excited to shoot their wedding!

...how excited I am for these photos. I've been so excited all week to edit them. Shooting this wedding was, for lack of a better phase, so awesome. (Unfortunately, my vocabulary is severely limited after 1:00AM ).

There is something very satisfying about being able to be a "fly on the wall" and being able to capture the special moments of the day as they unfold. I love the genuine expressions, and emotion. I wish I could do more right now, but it's late...and I should head to bed. So just a few for now.

I met some of the cutest kids this past weekend, and got to photograph them at one of the most popular parks in Tucson. There were several family gatherings as well as a wedding taking place during this session. It was fun to hear the whole park clap and cheer for the newly married couple.

So...it turns out that this little Sonoran desert place we live in down here is quite beautiful after all. (...especially in March...in the warm afternoon light). I never thought I'd say that 8 years ago. I guess that makes me an official desert dweller...or desert rat...or something like that.

But that's not the point of the post...the point is to post some of my favorite photos from this session. I had a hard time choosing which to post. With such a good looking family, you get a lot of great shots.

I am definitely a fan of the candid-ish family portrait.

This session was so great...a fantastic family (they were some of the first friends we made when we first moved to Tucson over 8 years ago), CUTE girls, ideal weather, and pizza afterward. All in all, a pretty great Saturday evening!

I took a little blogging break during Christmas, but I've done some really great sessions...so time to play catch up.

I've known this girl since her family moved into the apartments next to us about seven years ago. I think she was about one. I can't believe she's eight! I love the idea of dressing up and doing a special photo shoot for the big 8. I'm definitely going to do this with my girls.

It was cold...so we postponed the session for a few hours. This little girl talked the whole way there, but once it was time to take pictures she wasn't so into it. She did great...and we got some great pictures with her sweet little smile, and her great parents.

I love this one. It was one of the last photos from the session, and you can see it in her face...she is done.
